Plan Now to Dive Belize with Go Remote |
| Belize caye diving offers the perfect dive conditions of clear, warm water, calm seas and little current (especially inside the reef). There is much of the same UW scenery as Cozumel, ~180 miles north. It is a great environment for certification check out dives, UW photography, or just easy diving with dive sites often less than a 20 minute boat ride from the dock. Our condo lodging, including pool, is within a stone’s throw of the water / dive shop and an easy beachfront walk to several bars and restaurants. Apply now, and reserve your own air while seats remain during peak (February) season. This adventure is as soft as it gets. Who knows, perhaps the chicken will provide a discount. (see photo below) |

San Pedro, the quaint small drinking town, with a diving problem.
Beauty in Belize It was our good fortune to be on Ambergris Caye the week prior to the Costa Maya Festival that includes a beauty queen competition from each of the Central American countries. The summer festival provides another excuse for a party… as if islanders needed one. We missed the final selection night – but our own previous selection of Miss Nicaragua during our evening at La Patio restaurant and bar – proved to be accurate. Miss Maritza “Mari” Rivas was later selected as Miss Costa Maya from the group of seven other beautiful and charming young ladies.
The diving is always good – and sometimes spectacular – only minutes from the dock. I continue to think Belize is the very best training area for new divers inside the reef, like a giant aquarium, calm seas and limited current with great visibility. It isn’t unusual to see the unexpected huge ray, great moray eels, sharks, turtles or porpoise pod even inside the reef. All this, is in addition to the coral and “normal” tropical underwater sights. Belize is also the perfect dive spot to learn to manage an underwater camera for the same reasons.
If you haven’t been to San Pedro in a few years… they have added significantly more luxury compared to the “mom and pops” of years past, said another way – the place has been discovered. However, the laid back friendly charm is still present. Enjoy the scenic flight out to the caye over scenic tropical waters with Gerald or one of the other friendly Tropic pilots.
You can make the 17 minute shuttle flight in a 13 passenger, single engine Caravan over from Belize International Airport. Tropic Air has a new air terminal in San Pedro strip – a major change from under the palm tree I recall of years ago. The beach bar with the world famous “chicken drop” game of chance is still almost world famous – where you can purchase a local Belikin beer and a ticket for a numbered square on the floor board and wait for the live chicken to uhhhhhh make you a winner on your numbered square. Who would ever think so much fun could be had – waiting on a chicken? Our very affordable condo was on the water, near the dive shop, near the pool, under the palms and within low crawling distance of the best bars in town. (We didn’t low crawl – but you could.) Island Time is still the standard … the only reason for a watch is to time your dive interval. Join Go Remote for an affordable February return by making plans now.
